Macbeth Questions

Act 1

1.11

The effect of beginning the play with he witches is to show just how important they are going to become.

1.21 We learn ab out how Macbeth slaughtered people in the war, and that it was basically because of macbeth that the war was won. MacDonwald is a rebel and the previous thane of Cawdor (before Macbeth is given the title). MacDonwald betrays the kind Duncan in the war. His title than of Cawdor was taken away from him and given to Macbeth by Duncan. Macbeth stopped th rebels by killing and gutting them.
2. We learn that they have won the war against Norway and the rebels.

1.31
The purpose and effect of what the witches tell eachother in 1.3. 1-27 is to shwo they have the power to take away from anyone who is poor to them. These details are important to the play because if Macbeth is poor to them his fate will be bad. The witches drum and chant to prepare for Macbeth's arrival.

2. Macbeth's first line is like lines 10-11 in 1.1. dThe witches look withered and wild in their attire they don't look like they came from this earth. they have choppy fingerr, and look kind of like women except they have beards.
They tell Macbeth that he is the thane of Cawdor and, "Shalt be king hereafter," (1.3 46-48). Then Macbeth is told he is thane of Cawdor, we know because it is said before in the play. Banquo asks the witches if they are imaginary and they tell him that he is going to get kings for sons but wont be a king himself.
WE know that Macbeth is thane of Cawdor because Macdonwald the previous thane was a traitor.

3. Banquo says that the witches are like the bubbles of the earth, they vanish like bubbles in water do. He learns that he has earned the title of thane of Cawdor.
Macbeth is speaking to himself in lines 114-156. Macbeth has trouble with whether or not the witches predictions are good or bad. Again foul and fair is brought up.

4. Macbeth says he is tired. He shares his uneasiness about whether the weird sisters predictions are good or bad.

1.41 Cawdor was executed and before that he "confessed his treasons", asked for forgiveness and repented. The kind responded by saying he had absolute trust in the man (foolishly) and that you can't tell if someone is trustworthy by their face.

1.51 Yes, Macbeth accurately reported about the days events to his wife, he told her everything.

2. Lady Macbeth is angry that Macbeth didn't inform her of the kings coming earlier because she hasn't had enough time to prepare. Lady Macbeth intends to aid in the murder of Duncan. In order to do this she asked dark spirits to rid her of her remorse.

3. Lady Macbeth has decided to murder the king, she is fully committed, whre as Macbeth is not so sure. She tells him to give her the responsibility of killing Duncan so he will be innocent of the physical crime, but it is the "serpent" underneath', the plotter. She herself will kill Duncan.
